Since 2015 I have been on a mission to help street dogs in the Amazon region of Peru after meeting Charlie, a street dog on his last legs. What was supposed to be a leisurely vacation turned into my life‘s purpose. I travelled to many places in the world but have not seen street animals in such conditions met by the utter indifference of locals as I did in the Peruvian Amazon. There are close to 300,000 street animals in the city of Iquitos with a population of 500,000 people. There are no shelters, no veterinary clinics in the remote areas, no help of any kind. Animal abuse and cruelty is beyond incomprehensible there and the city isn’t doing their share to prosecute animal cruelty cases or help the street dog population. A handful of volunteers paired with kind hearted vets, a couple of local rescue groups and I are trying to make a difference. We are not a mega organization, I’m just a woman with a cell phone and an intense urge in my heart to help animals. That very urge sprung me into action. In three years we have rescued and rehabilitated many dogs and provided free veterinary assistance to hundreds of them. Charlie came along on some of my missions and his story inspired many in that city to rescue and give loving homes to street animals.

But we have a lot more work to do, hence my plea that has a double purpose:

1. To raise funds to organize and run large scale sterilization campaigns as that is the only viable method to eliminate the needless suffering of street animals.

2. To raise funds to finish the documentary project about Charlie and his role in inspiring me and thousands of others to help street animals. Showing the world his transformation from a street dog on his last legs to a purposeful therapy dog, has the potential for the masses to view street dogs in a different light. You will also get glimpse of our reunion party where we marched all of our rescues down the Malecon with Charlie in the lead.

We are a 501(c)(3) pending charity with a mission to leave no dog behind. I have included a short promo trailer to show you the scope of what we do at Project Street Dog. This promo also serves a sizzle reel to a docu-series that I wrote and that I need your help to finish and I hope to be picked up by a daring network.

If you choose to donate toward our street and sterilization campaigns please mark “Campaign” on your donation, if you would like to help us make the documentary and even receive credit as a producer or executive producer please mark “Street Dog Documentary” on your donation. Your donation is tax deductible. In gratitude to all of you with open hearts.
